I started photography as a means of therapy after witnessing a tragic event. I was in a very dark place, only able to see the horror I had witnessed for months to follow. A friend suggested that I dive into photography full on, with the idea that it might help force my brain to see something else beyond the darkness. I borrowed my wife’s Nikon D3200 that I’d bought for her many years ago. When the first image I created popped up on the back of the screen, it was the first smile I had in months, and the first time I could see something that was not a nightmare. I immediately knew I had to spend every moment with that camera in my hands to work my way out of hell. The only way I could justify that amount of time to my family was to earn some money with it. I did some research to find out “how do I know if my photography is good enough to go pro.” Google told me that if people you are not related to, not friends with, are not co-workers but are actually complete and total strangers begin to ask you if they can buy your work? Then that is a good indication you may be on the right track. From day one I began sharing every single image I created on social media and it was only a couple of months before I started getting messages from people asking if they could buy prints. As a result I decided to make it my goal to be a full time landscape and wildlife photographer. That goal was finally reached in April of 2025 after 8 years of learning, failing and learning some more.
